Grow Food Amherst

Grow Food Amherst is a group of local citizens working with UMass faculty, students and staff along with town staff who are committed to helping our neighbors become more food self-sufficient by growing and sharing food.

In 2012 we have:

• Sponsored a community wide food gleaning project
• Organized a community cooking and food preservation workshop
• Began a partnership with the local elementary schools by planting fruit trees

In 2013, we hope to:

• Encourage the community to invest in more edible landscapes
• Continue our gleaning work
• Expand the school garden project
• Create a seed swap
• Encourage others in our community to start or expand their own food gardens and composts

We have made a commitment to work on a Amherst Gardening and Compost Challenge in which a select number of gardens and composts would be initiated on the same weekend during the spring of 2013!
